The idea, the result of an initiative by the town’s mayor Ciro Borriello, was put to PrinceTurki al Faisal al Saud during his visit to the Mediterraneo Foundation in Naples last month where he received the ‘’Mediterranean Diplomacy 2015’ award for having contributed to the reconciliation between various peoples through the use of diplomacy. The city of Torre del Greco, represented for the occasion by councillors Romina Stilo and Anita Di Donna, formalized the invitation to the prince, asking him to return to Italy and, in particular, to Torre del Greco, to initiate a collaborative agreement promoting the marketing of products linked to the town’s traditions including, in particular, coral and flower growing in an important, continually evolving market like the Arab one.
“We must focus on opening up to an important international market to promote our specialities”, commented Romina Stilo, Councillor of Education of the City of Torre del Greco. “This is an opportunity for our companies, which have already shown that they are capable of being appreciated on the foreign market.”
The Councillor for Education opened and closed her speech to the prince with two greetings in Arabic: “as-salām ‘alaykum” (may peace be with you) and “in sā Allāh” (God willing): “A thought”, said Romina Stilo, “ which greatly pleased Prince Turki al Faisal al Saud, who reciprocated with a handshake and a ‘Grazie mille’ in Italian”.
Prince Turki al Faisal al Saud, a member of the House of Saud, the Saudi Arabia royal family, is the President of the King Faisal Center for Research and Islamic Studies (Kfcris). He also served as a former ambassador to the United States, distinguishing himself for his concrete actions in initiating talks between the Arab-Islamic world and the West.
